一次偶然的机会，夏目巧遇猫神。猫神告诉他，夏目的外婆玲子有一本“友人帐”上面记录了所有被玲子打败的妖怪的名字，玲子死后，妖怪为夺回名字，才纠缠夏目。只有把妖怪的名字还给他们，夏目才能恢复宁静的生活。
