本片根据革命女英烈任志贞和其丈夫白德胜的真实事迹改编而成，再现了战争年代陕北的红色岁月，讲述了任志贞和其丈夫白德胜为革命抛头颅、洒热血的故事……。该剧讲述了三个家庭的两代宿怨，蒋定邦因沉迷工作而忽略太太慧心，从而导致离婚，儿子蒋子聪则交由慧心抚养。期间发生大火，定邦误以为慧心母子已葬身火海，遂远赴英国加入警界。二十年后，定邦由英国返港，再次加入警队服务。在对付黑道枭雄齐乔正时发现齐浩男是自己失散多年的儿子。齐乔正和蒋定邦因为身份关系注定是死敌，而齐浩男夹在两位父亲之间，一直在正义与邪恶之间摇摆。。Just over 40 years ago, marriage in China was arranged by the state.
